4.0 out of 5 stars Stans works. Watch the Stans videos, May 1, 2010
After putting up with flats and the extra weight, I took the plunge and bought Stan's conversion kit along with two new tubeless mountain bike tires. I also watched Stans videos as well as several others on youtube a couple of times each. I considered buying tubeless rims, but given the price and that I'm a weekend warrior at best, it seemed a little much. Instead I learned to subtleties of tubed to tubeless conversion and got a little dirty.

The rim strip, that looks like an inner tube except it's just a flat strip, would not allow me to put on the tubeless tires. With the rim strip I was able to use my old tubed tires, but the weaker sidewall compared to the tubeless ones [which have fairly uniform thickness through the tire] had me nervous. To get a seal soap suds are needed as shown in the video, to seal between the tire and the wheel as well as make visible leaks, as well as a high air volume floor pump or compressed air [the one at the gas station worked for me]... 1.0 out of 5 stars Not as easy as they make out and they don't stand behind product, August 5, 2011
I bought the Stan's kit together with 2 additional rim strips and a syringe to convert 4 wheels I had. I checked their website and all wheels (2 Bontrager tubeless compatibles and 2 regular Mavic wheels) were listed and gave recommendations.

I read the instructions (they are brief) and also watched the online video multiple times. However when I tried my install I wasn't getting any air to stay in any tyre - all air came straight back out at the valve stem. I removed the tires and saw the rimstrips didn't seem right. I took pictures and emailed Stan's. The response back was odd in that it quoted the wrong wheels, but it assured me the sealant would do the job.

Tried 4 times and only 1 wheel took air - the other 3 leaked all the sealant where the air was rushing out and never sealed it. I tried for hours. And the one that did take air, leaked it out overnight and was flat in the morning.

I've since emailed Stan's twice more. I politely asked for... Read more

I'm a weekend warrior with a fairly light dual suspension bike (Specialized Enduro S-works), but had been using some pretty heavy tubes (Slime thorn tubes) that weigh almost 2 lbs each, plus one extra in my pack, for about 6 lbs of extra weight.

When I heard about Stan's conversion allowing you to use standard rims & tires and go tubeless, I was skeptical and didn't check into it. Recently, however, on the recommendation of friend I went ahead and took the plunge, and I can honestly say that Stan's WORKS. Plus, after dispensing with all the extra tube weight, my bike handles SO much better and I can bunny hop the bike like never before.

You will want to pay close attention to the instructions, as there is definitely a process to making the conversion and you don't want to cut any corners. There is a helpful video and other information on Stan's website that is also worth checking out before you start. It is very helpful to have a compressor rather than relying... Read more
